Listen to Dr. Piccini explain the value of timely lead extraction with regards to CIED infection in response to a 100% Medicare sample study presented at ACC 2022. Lead extraction within 7 days of identification of CIED infection reduces patient mortality significantly.
timely diagnosis and treatment is important for a large number of reasons. And we shouldn't be surprised that time matters because if we look at other types of infections including sepsis, we know that the time to which a patient receives definitive therapy is one of the key determinants of their outcomes and how they do. So. In fact, in our study, we saw that patients who got complete hardware removal did better than patients who didn't get complete hardware removal. But, moreover, the patients who had complete hardware removal and within seven days had the best outcomes. And we don't think that seven is a magic number or there is any magic number. We see this relationship that the sooner the patient is diagnosed and the sooner they get definitive therapy, um the lower mortality they had and the better outcomes they had in our analysis. And again, that shouldn't be surprising to any student of medicine because we know we see this pattern over and over and other infections and other diseases.
